The finca above Agua Amarga

I have planned more weddings at this finca than anywhere else. Not because it has the best view — another one has that. Because of the energy that builds there every single time.
By the second day the family has always organised itself. Someone is in the kitchen, someone clears up afterwards, and somebody has appointed themselves head of cocktails. Nobody hands out the jobs. It simply happens.
This is not a venue for a wedding day. It is a house for a weekend.

You really are among yourselves
It is a private finca. No hotel with other guests, no restaurant next door, nobody sitting by the pool who does not belong to you. You get the property, all of it. The nearest neighbour is far enough away that you cannot see them and they cannot hear you.
What that means only becomes clear on site. Nobody has to behave. The children run around the pool and nobody looks up. The uncle who normally goes to bed at ten is still outside at two. And in the morning you come down for coffee in your pyjamas, because there is nobody else there anyway.
And then there is something I underestimated for a long time: the finca is not too big. You do not lose each other. You keep running into one another all day — at the coffee machine, by the pool, on the way to your room. After two days people who had never met know each other.
A house for 35
Nine double rooms in the main house, each with its own bathroom and its own terrace. Plus two small apartments outside, half built into the rock. Whoever needs quiet in the morning takes their coffee outside. Whoever wants to talk comes downstairs.
It is a self-catering house: a huge lounge with a fireplace and a table football, a breakfast room, and a kitchen built for catering volumes. You barbecue, you cook, you order something in, you drive down to the beach in between. No restaurant with fixed meal times carves up your day.
Where you celebrate
The pool is the heart of it. The table stands right beside it, and with larger groups it wraps around the water. From about 60 guests we move to a larger area under a canopy — which has to be booked separately. Nobody tells you that in advance, so it is written here.
When it gets dark, dense curtains of fairy lights hang above the pool and the table, and the water doubles everything. Then the party starts: outside until three in the morning, with proper music, and indoors after that. For a finca in Andalusia that is unusually generous — most close at midnight.
Where you marry
Either up at the house, in a small round terrace looking over the landscape, or you pick a spot nearby and we drive there — to the cliffs, to a cove, to the sea. One thing you should know: you cannot see the sea from the property itself. The panorama here is mountains and open space, not water. If you want to look at the sea from your dinner table, another venue suits you better — write to me and I will show you which.
The finca in pictures
Is this the right place for you?
Yes, if you …
- are planning a whole weekend, not just an evening
- want to be genuinely among yourselves, with no strangers around
- want everyone to sleep in the same house
- are bringing together a family that still has to get to know each other
- enjoy cooking for yourselves and dislike a timetable
- want to celebrate late
Probably not, if you …
- want a sea view from your table
- expect full board and hotel service — here you look after yourselves
- want everyone to sleep on site — beyond 35 guests the rest stay in the village
- are only flying in for one day

Too big or too small? If you are more than 55 guests, have a look at your own village near Pozo de los Frailes — same idea, one size up.
