The cortijo above the fishing village

White cortijo above the fishing village of La Isleta del Moro, wedding venue in Cabo de Gata with sea view

If you ask me where the most beautiful view is: here. The cortijo sits right at the top of the hill, and from there you see the whole sea, the bay, and the small white fishing village of La Isleta del Moro below.

It used to be an old cortijo. Someone modernised, rebuilt and extended it without taking away its character. What came out of that is the venue where my photographers reach for their cameras first.

One couple wrote to me afterwards that it had felt like a film. I cannot put it any better than that.

At a glance

What it is Old cortijo, modernised – on top of the hill with a sea view
Celebrating 20 to 160 guests
Sleeping 8 rooms for 16 guests, all en suite – plus a separate house for the couple
Music indoors from midnight – and there until 6 a.m.
Catering own restaurant on site
Rain plan the upper terrace is covered
To the beach on foot, down the hill
Step-free only partly – there are steps and natural stone paths

The little house for the couple

There is a separate small house on the grounds, reserved just for you. Fully furnished, with a genuinely beautiful bathroom — and right outside it, your own small pool with the full view.

That sounds like a luxury detail, but it is mainly practical: on the morning of your wedding you have a place of your own while the main house is already awake. And in the evening you do not have to walk past your family to get to bed.

The main house holds eight more rooms, each en suite. They are large, bright and have very good beds. Together they sleep 16 guests.

Where you marry

The ceremony takes place on a round terrace with the full panorama — sea, bay, rocks. Guests sit partly on whitewashed built-in benches that curve around you like a small amphitheatre, partly on wooden chairs.

Dinner is served under the large covered wooden pergola or outside on the terrace. Below it are chill-out corners where guests sit between courses and look at the water.

How late you can celebrate

From midnight everyone moves inside. There is a party room, and the music runs there until six in the morning.

That is a different rhythm from my other venues: outside it ends earlier, but inside it runs far longer than anywhere else. If you want to dance until sunrise, this is your place.

What you should know

Two things I tell every couple in advance.

This venue books out very fast. You need to plan well ahead, and realistic dates are usually mid-week. For a wedding abroad that is not a drawback — your guests are travelling for several days anyway, and afterwards nobody remembers whether it was a Thursday or a Saturday.

It is only partly step-free. There are steps and natural stone paths. If someone in your family is unsteady on their feet, tell me early — then we look together at whether it still works or whether another venue fits better.

The cortijo in pictures

Is this the right place for you?

Yes, if you …

  • want a sea view, all day long
  • care about architecture and good photographs
  • want to celebrate until the morning
  • would like a retreat of your own as a couple
  • are planning early and are flexible about the weekday

Probably not, if you …

  • have guests who are unsteady on their feet
  • are marrying at short notice
  • absolutely need a Saturday
  • want to accommodate everyone on site — 16 sleep here
