A funny wedding in Cabo de Gata, yes, you could say that. Anke and Thomas were the surprise of the year for us. Or rather, their rather party-loving wedding guests were.
When I first saw the two of them on a video call I thought: quiet couple, he very reserved, she with clear ideas and a project manager herself. This will be hard. My first impression wasn’t all that wrong, only the planning wasn’t hard at all. Everything flowed, we had wonderful, creative conversations, and at some point Thomas joined in too.
Arriving and the details
On 13 October it was already 26 degrees at ten in the morning when we arrived to decorate. The guests had brought their own guitarist with a speaker, and the morning turned into a merry pool party. And us in the middle of it, hanging lights and singing. Wonderful.
And anyone who knows me knows details are everything. The place cards were calligraphed eucalyptus leaves, clipped to the menus with a little peg.

The ceremony on the beach in Cabo de Gata
Anke had always wanted a wedding on the beach, and she got one. Cabo de Gata was unusually green that October. Normally it is more beige and brown here.

A symbolic ceremony usually lasts 30 to 45 minutes. But the guests sang and danced serenades during the ceremony and afterwards, and simply wouldn’t stop. We really couldn’t tame this crowd.

Mediterranean decor with eucalyptus
Eucalyptus, olive, a few flowers and lots of wood: subtly elegant and still light and easy. The bouquet was loosely tied, and guess what was in it? Right, eucalyptus.

Dinner by candlelight at the pool
At the cortijo there were tapas, Aperol Spritz and a great atmosphere. When we switched on the lights for the first time and lit the candles for dinner, it turned magical. That mood on a mild evening by the pool was the absolute highlight.

What stays
Then the party began, and we fell into bed incredibly tired and even happier. The perfect end to a perfect season.
Frequently asked questions
Can you get married in Cabo de Gata in October?
Yes, very well. In mid-October it is often still over 25 degrees during the day, and evenings are mild enough for dinner outdoors.
When is the best time for a wedding in Almería?
April to June and September to October are the most popular months. In July we move the ceremony to the late afternoon, and we don’t plan weddings in August because it is too hot.
How long does a symbolic ceremony take?
Usually 30 to 45 minutes, depending on how many speeches, songs or rituals you plan.
