A finca wedding in Spain, so calm and refined that every detail counts. Lena and Martin didn’t want anything elaborate. No fuss, no colourful decor, just white, a touch of black, baby’s breath and lots of space. Minimalist, delicate, and that is exactly why it was so beautiful.
They met in summer 2015 in a bar in Bochum, Germany, after the last exam of the semester. Only later did they find out: same university, even the same exam. After two years of long distance and lots of travelling, he proposed in Costa Rica. And Lena always knew: if I get married, it will be by the sea.

Getting ready at the finca
The finca was their home for the whole weekend. White walls, pink bougainvillea, a pool and wooden doors that look like they have heard a hundred stories. Lena got ready inside, Martin outside in the courtyard: bow tie, jacket and a little baby’s breath boutonniere.

The first look
Before the ceremony they saw each other for the first time at an old stone house. First just their hands on the wall, then the look. One of my favourite moments of any wedding: completely quiet, just the two of them.

Minimalist decor for the outdoor ceremony
The ceremony took place at the finca, looking over the land all the way to the sea. A simple arch with light fabric, branches, baby’s breath in glass and white chairs. Nothing more was needed. That is the magic of a finca wedding in Spain: the landscape is the decor.

The ceremony: a speech, a guitar and a kiss
Marit married them with a very personal speech while Javi played the guitar. There was laughter, a few tears, rings were exchanged, and then came the kiss.

Drinks and details
After the ceremony there were drinks and cheese. Every guest found their seat with the “Find your place” cards, and small favours hung on a white wall. On the tables: simple place settings with a black ribbon.

Couple portraits between bougainvillea and evening light
In the late afternoon Ana took them around the finca, through the bougainvillea and into the golden light just before sunset.

Dinner under the trees and a pool party
Dinner was served at long tables under the trees while the sun slowly set and lanterns and string lights took over. There was no cake, that’s how they wanted it. And then everyone danced by the pool until late at night.

What stays
A weekend that suited them perfectly: easy-going, warm, with family and friends, and decor that didn’t need to be loud to be beautiful.
